Forgiveness

Forgiveness

Hanging on the cruel cross,

Despised and cursed, that hour;

Jesus, in His final breath

Revealed His hidden power…

“Father, please forgive!” He cried,

“For they know not what they’ve done!”

He prayed a prayer of deliverance,

Not for Himself – God’s Son…

He prayed instead, for the souls of men

Who were bound by sin and lost;

He poured His mercy on each proud heart

That nailed Him to the cross!

He offers mercy to each whose sin

Had caused His final cry;

He could have chosen an easier path,

Not one that saw Him die!

Sometimes, we are faced with hurting hearts,

From pasts and people too;

Events with names, which caused us pain,

Some, that are old, some new.

We have a choice to embittered be

Or find the path God calls “forgive”;

We dare not choose bitterness and blame

To excuse the way we live!

We, who are the one’s Redeemed

Forgiven, Blood-washed, Pure…

Can gently offer, “I forgive”,

Through Christ’s mercy, which endures.

Forgiveness, oh, the blessed choice,

A choice released to me!

I forgive the souls who caused my pain

Empowered by Him who set me free!

Bound no more to slanderer’s tongue,

Or crucifixion’s terrible nails;

Rise from that tomb with Jesus Christ!

Forgiveness never fails!
